  • Health: benefits and virtues of violet

Planting violet

Take advantage of the winter flowering of this pretty little flower to decorate your planters but also your flower beds or borders.

Planting violet :

The violet plantation purchased in a jar or container is carried out throughout the fall preferably and even until early spring.

Favor a fairly rich and well-drained soil for a beautiful flowering. But ordinary garden soil will also work.

Violet seedlings:

To sow your violets well, thesowing takes place from June-July, until September.

  • Broadcast sow in special seed soil and lightly cover the seeds
  • Water regularly in fine rain to keep the substrate moist
  • Place your seedling in the light but without direct sunlight
  • As soon as they emerge, thin out to 3-4 cm, removing the less vigorous young plants

It is strongly advised to transplant the first time in a cup after 4 to 5 weeks before setting up in the fall or the following spring.

  • When planting, respect a distance of about 15 cm between each violet plant.

Caring for violet

Violet does not require much maintenance except, perhaps, to be watered if the soil dries up.

You can remove the faded flowers as you go to stimulate the appearance of new flower buds.

For violets grown in containers, pots or planters, you need to provide a little more regular watering so as not to let the soil dry out too long.

To know about the violet

Very pretty perennial with winter or spring flowering, it will brighten up our beds, your planters or your pots until spring arrives.

Indeed, while some varieties flower in winter, others will flower in spring and even beyond.

The horned violet resembles the thought and is part of the same family, but it is much more rustic than the latter.

We can also differentiate pansies from violets by their petals.

  • Violets have 2 petals up and three down.
  • Pansies have 4 petals up and one down

Violet being particularly hardy, it will withstand winter cold very well, down to -15 °.

You will enjoy flowering throughout the winter for some varieties and, in addition, for relatively long periods.

Smart tip about violet

The violet which also blooms in early spring will pair perfectly with tulips which bloom at the same time!

It is found in association with primroses, the tulips or the forget-me-not.
